American English Pronunciation-Lessons are available on quite a few topics. Each lesson provides the pattern, gives examples, provided practice (a lot of practice), and ends with a quiz. Each word in the quiz can be pronounced for the student by clicking on the speaker icon. This site would be good for Language Arts or ESL classes.

National Museum of American History- Smithsonian's History Explorer is a Web site being developed by the National Museum of American History in partnership with the Verizon Foundation to offer free, innovative online resources for teaching and learning American history.
In Motion: The African-American Migration Experience- This exhibit was created by the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library. For each migration there are background resources, images, articles, maps and detailed lesson plans. Flash is required.
The Avalon Project- A good source for Primary Sources.
Smithsonian Cultural Heritage Tours-offering a series of free online tours that invite educators, families, and students to learn about America’s diverse cultural heritage by examining objects drawn from the Smithsonian’s vast collections. The cultural heritage tours "allow viewers to delve deeper and learn even more about African American and Latino history and culture through the prism of art and historical objects," said Director of Programs Stevie Engelke.

In the Teachers portion of Parlo's index, select Teacher's Corner Materials and then select the English archive. There you will find beginner, intermediate and advanced lesson plans.
